United States Postal Service, Capitol Heights Fire Alarm Upgrade

The United States Postal Service processing center in Capitol Heights, Maryland, sorts mail and packages for Maryland, the District of Columbia, and Virginia. It consists of a network of six buildings on a 71.5 acre site. In 2004, VarcoMac upgraded the fire alarm system for all six buildings, and was responsible for installing and testing over 700 audible and visual devices, 85 manual pull stations, 52 smoke detectors, 117 duct detectors, and 11 control panels. Over 30,000 feet of conduit and more than 100,000 feet of fire alarm cable was required for the upgrade. The project was completed on schedule and without causing any disruption to the normal operations of the facility.
