Children's National Medical Center, Fire Alarm Upgrade

This complete retrofit and upgrade of the Children's National Medical Center's fire alarm system is the most extensive life safety project VarcoMac has taken on. Taking over four years to complete, this three phase project consisted of the complete removal of all old fire alarm system components and the installation and testing of over 5,000 new devices. Nearly 50 miles of conduit was installed to support the new system, which includes: fully addressable ADA compliant devices, smoke evacuation, color graphic display Annunciator, and voice evacuation instructions. All work was completed without disrupting the normal operation of the hospital. Areas of work included the four level underground parking garage, office areas, patient rooms, laboratories, stairwells, and more totaling over 2,000,000 square feet.
